He was their most competent national staff member and was offered an international post in a neighbouring country. He was tempted; the terms and conditions were certainly very attractive. In the end, however, he had to turn down the offer. His was a very conservative country and the male head of the family's role went far beyond being the principle breadwinner, and there was not only his direct family to consider but also the extended family.
